I Think I Saw A Homeless Person

I'll warn you now that this post could get a little preachy and may not end up being that entertaining. It happened when I was out for my walk on Monday. I've taken to walking for longer for more exercise, and one of the ways I achieve that is to walk down roads to local landmarks and back. I say local landmarks, and there's actually very few of those. By that I mean the leisure centre, the church, and the local football ground which I visited on Tuesday.
I'd show you something local but I don't want to be tracked down
Walking down to the church and then around it can add a good five minutes to my walk, and that was what I did. It was as I was walking around the church that I saw someone on the side opposite the road. They were sleeping on a backpack. At least I hope they were homeless and they were sleeping and I didn't accidentally stumble onto a dead body. I walked quietly past them and kept on my way so I didn't disturb them, but it was the first time that I've actually seen someone sleeping rough. As I kept walking and walked down the path to the road, I saw someone else walking the way I'd just came. I was tempted to ask them if they knew the girl, but I'm not actually that sociable. I don't know if you could tell. I just left them in peace, and kept walking on my way. Plus unfortunately I wasn't in any position to help them. It's not like I had any money, or directions to the nearest homeless shelter. I don't even think there is one near me.
I don't want to think there are people like this
Homelessness is something I feel pretty strongly about. I don't think that anyone should be allowed to end up in that situation. I represented how I feel in one of my short stories actually. A character in one of my stories employed homeless people and gave them a place to live and work. That would be something great to do, but first I guess I have to be rich and successful first. It's a shame that the people who are in a position to help rarely do. There are plenty of homeless shelters out there and there are some great stories, but there's still a lot of bad things going on. I'm not even sure where I'm trying to take this. The original idea I had is completely gone now. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you see a homeless person, then try and do some good for them. Try and help them if you can. The same also applies to homeless animals. I guess it's much easier to take in a homeless cat or dog than a homeless person though...that's not that recommended. Anyway, I'll shut up now and let you be on your way. I've completely lost my train of thought.

What are your own personal thoughts regarding homelessness? Have you ever seen/helped someone personally?

  1. I was reading an article about how hard it is to find a job these days in the U.S.. you have to have a fair amount of luck just to not end up on the streets these days... it truly wouldn't take that much for many of us to end up there.

  3. Homelessness is not something I am familiar with and we don't see a lot of homeless people around here they are usually in town my daughter use to see them a lot when she worked in town. I used to not be able to get my head around how people became homeless but that was before my niece found herself homeless, be it only for a short time she was couch hopping and one day she was at my daughters place and was suppose to go to her brother's place but that fell through and she wouldn't stay at my daughters because my daughter was going out and she wouldn't stay in the house with my daughters boyfriend who she can't stand the sight of, anyway I was there to pick up my grandson and she was crying and didn't know what to do so I brought her back here and she stayed for 8 months till she was able to find a place to rent
