Lost A Job, Gained A Job

So this time last week I was happily posting about how I managed to get a job as an article writer. I was pretty happy about that. Oh how easy life was back when I was so young and foolish. You know, seven whole days ago. It counts. Anyway, things happened and unfortunately this past Monday I was informed that there was no more work for me because I messed up. Essentially I was actually doing someone else's work for them and I did it wrong. So not only did he get in trouble but everyone else working for him at the time ended up out of work.
Boy that was deflating
After a short amount of feeling sorry for myself I realised I should get back to applying for jobs. So that's just what I did. I still felt bad for the majority of the day. Not getting any replies to those job applications didn't help.

That's when things picked up.
We all need an emergency kitten every so often
Someone did get back to me and offer me a job with them. It's actually more than I was going to be paid by the other guy too. I say "was going to be" because I never got any money for what I did for him in the end. I'm still not really making money but, hey, it's not like I have many expenses. I'm basically earning what a server earns but without the possibility of tips. That's how I choose to look at it.

Some of the work can be pretty fun though. On Tuesday I helped rewrite almost an entire website for a pizza company and yesterday I had to write recipes for, of all things, pot based lasagne and wine. Yes folks it's true, you can make wine/beer out of any plant/fruit/herb and that includes good old marijuana. Not that I actually smoke pot myself. To be honest I had to transcribe a youtube video for one of the recipes and the woman in the video gave a very, very bad look at pot smokers. I know not all are bad though.

Well I'm going to end this here before it gets too far into political debate about weed. What matters is I lost a job and gained a job on the same day. I actually got several job offers and had to turn them down. That's new.

  1. Oh, the ups and downs of life! Glad you got back in the saddle so quickly after being bucked off.

    1. I was still pretty bad and ended up being a bit of a dick to a friend, but things are cool now. She actually doesn't know I lost a job though. I should probably tell her.

    1. I'm gonna keep on doing that for a long time yet, don't you worry.

  3. I try not to smoke the mary-joo-onnas because I know if I do it's a quick gateway to black tar heroin and punching babies.

That's a little pot humor. I don't smoke either, but it's funny how many people see it like some kind of life-ending drug.

But seriously, congratulations! In life, breaking even is often the best we can ask for. And losing a job only to gain one is definitely worthy of celebration.

    1. Not to be that stoner dude that defends the drug to no end (it's still a drug (like alcohol), so use responsibly and with moderation), but it's as gateway if you let it be. If you can't keep yourself in check you shouldn't be using ANYTHING in the first place.

    2. It's cool Fang, I think they were just taking the mick out of people who like to think of Mary J as a gateway drug that leads to all kinds of messed up stuff. It doesn't, and a large majority of people know that. Even as a non-pot smoker I wish it was legal because it is, or seems, pretty damn harmless.

Now I wish I had some pot to celebrate with.

    3. That's what I had guessed, but better safe than sorry? I just hate how there's still some much disinfo, about this and other topics, in the year almost-2015.

  4. Can I get a link to those pot-based recipes, please? I'm not actually kidding. I live in the Netherlands, what did you expect? Wonder if those recipes are for actual "edibles" though.
Anyway, sounds really rad! It's not what one would expect when you say "content writing".

    1. "Content writing" covers literally everything. Any kind of writing you can do comes under it. It's something I've quickly discovered. I write about so many things. Anyway, here's your pot recipes. They aren't my versions, because I don't know where they ended up. I'll warn you now the woman in the youtube video has a very grating voice. I suggest you watch it while already high. Oh and the weed beer takes about six months to ferment properly.

      http://forum.grasscity.com/incredible-edible-herb/99794-marijuana-wine-recipe.html for the weed wine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Tfmfjkzzw8 for the weed lasagne. It looks pretty good.

    2. Wow, the wine actually contains digestible THC. That's fucking radical, though if anyone cares to read this, do keep in mind alcohol and marijuana potentiate each other. Slow and easy, you can take more, but never less!
That's seriously cool though. Quick search reveals you can do something similar for whiskey. "It's time to cook."

  5. That seems like the person you were doing their work for got hit with some bad karma. Not only were you doing their work for them, but they apparently didn't even bother to check if you were doing it right. So he didn't pay you for what you did either? Guy sounds like quite a piece of work.
